very very post-dated post from Wuxi

17 Nov (Monday)
Touched down to Shanghai, temperature was 17 Deg. Total travelling time to Wuxi is about 10 hours including travelling to Changi Airport. Nothing much happening. Reached hotel at 8+pm, checked in and shower. Tried sleeping but woke up almost every hour. Morning, woke up but fell asleep again and woke up

20 Nov (Thursday)
It has been quite ok on Tuesday with abt 10 Deg in the morning. But temperature suddenly dropped to 6 deg on wed and further in the evening to 2 deg. Still 6 Deg in the morning and slowly increased to abt 10 Deg at night. Had Ajisen Ramen today and Starbucks Toffee Latte. Wow…. Its really heaven to sip piping hot coffee while walking back to my hotel. Really too cold to go out shopping already. Walking outside for 10 mins already makes me shiver. Maybe I still refuse to get those inner wear. Hmmmm…. Maybe I should go get some during the weekends ba. So that I won’t shiver that much….

I have been watching this Taiwan series <<换换爱> for almost a week now. Its very nice show. Fairy taley love story, starring Raine Yang and dono what He liao. Haahaha…. Nice…. And touching also. The last 2 episodes, cry until like dono wat. Hahahaha… think is only the 5th or 6th episode now. Hmmm… have to go Tudou search liao…

21 Nov (Friday)
Very stressed ah… can’t finish my things….. so was not very nice to my mgr though. Probably was really stressed out cos I still need to go to another location to do my audit and have nvr seen the ppl there b4. but still, I managed to go there at abt 3pm. It’s a very very secluded place. The surrounding is all farms. And I have never seen villages for the longest time. I think this must be the poor section of Wuxi. Not the poorest yet. Leading a simple life… harvesting their grains…no technology = longer lifespan. Hahahhaa…

This other part of the company is near the harbour. That explains why I can smell the sea from the office. Oh.. and…. They have 2 baby dogs. Heard from one of the staff, they picked up the baby doggy from somewhere and rear. Its becoming fatter as days passed liao. But very soon, those dog hunters will be here to catch the dogs… For? Food la. Haiz…. So sad… then, it was time for me to go le.

22 Nov (Saturday)
Woke up record early today. At 5.30am. hmmm… might as well. Wash up and get ready to be the 1st customer for breakfast. And… Yesssss… I AM the 1st to eat there. Ahahaha… saw the一厨. Hmm… quite tall and handsome wor… hahahaha…. Well, had a little of almost everything which I have no time to eat during the weekdays. Food here is much much better than the previous hotel which I stayed in but the service is really slow. I wonder if its due to Winter that ppl are a way bit sluggish? Hee… but no complaints on the food la. Just that, some of the food are not warm enough. But crispy crispy fritters, is still crispy despite being cold. Hahha… I shall have more tmr. =)

With no internet access here, I’m really lucky to have my JBL speakers ard. Hahahaha…. Cos my lappy’s speakers really sucks. Hmmm…. Sitting down, making sure my fav songs are being played. Then, so very reluctantly, I took out my work and start working on them. I wanted to go out to play…. Kept looking outside.. hhahaa… anyway, will be going out for dinner and shopping later.

Hmmm… for nw, I shall watch my 3 continuous hours of 恶作剧之吻on tv loh… hehehe… was watching halfway then my mgr called to go out jalan jalan. Haiz…. So just go out lor.. went Starbucks coffee, shopping and then dinner. Din really enjoy the shopping cos I’m having gastric. Anyways, shopping was ok la. This were relatively cheap except for the ppl. They just push and shove just to get their way. Irritated as I was, I also followed them la. Couldn’t care less liaoz. To fit in = to blend in. since ppl here alr talked to me in local language, so I guess, I can pass off as one. Hahahaha….

Dinner was at TGI Fridays’ quite ex though. Din really enjoy either cos no cheesecake!!!

23 Nov (Sunday)
Black Sunday. Fallen really sick with flu and gastric. Din do much work… was in bed most of the time with I think 4 HBO movies. No ah… is 5. hahaha…. That’s how I spent at least 10 hrs + abt 2hrs for my meals and some other Taiwanese shows. That’s all for my Black Sunday.

The following week, is just looking forward for Friday to come. Temperature also fell to below 10 deg.

Thought of the day

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

Random. Very Random post

Read abt Melanine in dairy products, eggs, etc... Any last nite, I've received an email regarding fake ikan bilis. What am I suppose to eat when I go China 2 wks later? Everything seems 'fishy'. Have to really scrutinise everything before putting them into my mouth.

Though I'm looking forward to my next trip, its the Shanghai portion which I'm more excited abt cos I'll be having a short holiday there before coming back to SG. Hahahaha.... Cold weather for me again... Yeah!! However, I'm still missing HK. I dono. After my very 1st trip to HK in 2005, I've always been looking forward to go there again and again. Probably is the food there. Also partly because of my HK friends that I've known from some chatrooms (though I've not been into for quite some time). Still chat with each other online occassionally.

Today's journey to work was quite ok. Not much pushing and shoving in the train. But I hate it when ppl just cut through the queue in the Bus interchange to get to their bus bay faster at the inconvenience of others. Why do ppl always like to take short cut? How much time can that save? And the inconvenience that you cause to others? Anyway, thats just a small matter la. Hmmm...

This is really random. Suddenly feel like going KTV. Hahahaha... after posting a song on my cousin's blog. Hmmm.... church choir... doesn't seem all that inspiring to me as time goes by. I'm not sure if its cos of me or cos simply, the spiritual input wasn't there at all. And whenever I go to other churches, be it Catholic/Christian, I feeeeeeeeeeel HIS existence. But not in my choir. I only have those tensed up feeling and the leader just wanna let everybody knows that he's in charge, often over-riding the duties of our conductor.

Hmmm... 7yrs ago when I 1st joined this choir, I was so looking forward to each week's practice and never was late. Enjoying every moment that I was singing, knowing that God is with me. 7yrs later, i just feel, its a chore. 7 year itch maybe. But my passion already died down like 3 yrs ago. Its just the friendship that keeps me going. Its really very tiring having to push ppl to do things and those on top are so afraid of committing themselves to do anything. Having them to commit to a date is like wanting their life. You hear all sort of funny reasons. Like other ppl don't need to work. I'm disappointed.

During practice, I was just trying to correct a certain part that's been singing perpetually wrongly despite we've been singing this song for eons. Only to get a comment saying that I'm from blah blah blah choir... can sight-read better... different singing... we are church choir not professionals... Have to show respect to blah blah blah... I've shown enough respect to not rattle of at the top of my voice saying YOU"VE BEEN SINGING THOSE SONGS EVEN BEFORE I WAS BORN AND YET STILL UNABLE TO GET IT RIGHT!!! Oh! Come On! Enough of silly excuses to protect ur face.

When I 1st joined the choir, my voice was soft like a mice. I could hardly hear myself. Though I sing much louder now, I still get drowned by those loud voices. Talking about projecting my voice. I learnt those through courses that our choir had 4-5yrs ago. I don't see why those who also attended those courses are still singing what they used to sing 10yrs ago. This is downright Money Down the Drain. Its true that when it comes to singing, I'm a very technical person and expects perfection. However, after that colourful comment, I've given up in correcting ppl. Totally. My passion for singing... greatly diminished. No compelling reason for me to stay in the choir... I can stay in the choir for God. But with no passion. Singing without passion is like a person without a soul. Why do I have to compromise on this?

Full of...

Brand new day has come and I was happily on my way to work.

At the train station. MRT approached and came to a stop. I was trying to get into the already packed train and this guy! Pushed me to one side so that he can squeeze into the train. I remembered you. White long-sleeve stripe shirt with black pants. Still dare to gimme that innocent look when the train door closed and I'm still outside the train. I nearly fell to the side from that push. Normally I wouldn't have nearly fell if it not for his big size and much taller than me. Haiz... Too full to eat breakfast liao!

At my destination destination station, I finally got out of the train with ppl rushing in trying to get a seat. Nobody cares if I'm going the opposite direction as them. They just push! And I got stepped on my foot. I think lunch also no need to eat le!

Still not enough of bad moments?

I'm still on the line with CPF board checking on the status of my GST Offset Package and Growth Dividend issue. DAMN!!! Need 4 weeks just to retreive my Income Tax info from IRAS. Thats the standard procedure I was told. Standard RIGID Procedures! Thats why I hate tax.

Called IRAS. Told me that I did not submit by Income Tax form for YA07 and they are issuing my a letter of dono what with a composite penalty of S$75! Blah blah blah.... need to fill in a Form B1, send to them and wait for the Notice of Assessment to come. I thought I already submitted like one and a half years ago! Need at least 3 wks to get my Form B to them and wait for another month or so to get my NOA. That would be like next year when I receive it. How to be in time for the GST Offest Package thingy? ANGER!!! I think I don't even need to eat dinner now! What EFFICIENT Government Agencies we have!

Oh Happy Day?

I really cannot imagine how ppl from other countries take the MRT every morning. I've tried taking MTR in Hong Kong during the morning rush and it was OK. Alot of ppl, packed but not sardined and I wasn't being 'shoved' around.

I really don't understand what Singaporeans are thinking? Despite constant announcements being made to move to the middle of the cabin, ppl are still standing at the door while the middle part is empty. EMPTY!!! Its really frustrating if after 2 MRTs and u're still unable to board it. And having to wait >5mins for each train is a pain. OK. Enough of procrastinating.

Next!

Hmmm... recently been to Batam, Bethesda Orphanage. Was there with a group of Bro & Sis-in-Christ for some 'mission' thingy. Playing with the kids, cooking for them, interacting with them. OK. I admit I was at a loss of what to do cos I don't speak their language and was my 1st time there. So, I've decided to be a spectator instead. To watch some of the older kids play soccer. Man! They were good. Maybe one day, given a chance, they might be in the National Team.

Next!

I just took my FTT last nite and failed again. Sadz. Blame it on the study guide I bought from BBDC. Some of the qs are not even inside the guide. I went to the NETs machine and faithfully topped up my credit and applied for my next test date, which is in Dec. Thats a loooong time to go. My target to pass driving by 2008 is as good as ~ missed.

That's all for now.... need to get some food... =)

Life in Wuxi

15.09.08 (Mon)
Reached Shanghai Pudong Airport at 1.25pm. Almost 1 hr later, we are finally out of the airport embarking on the 2nd half of our journey to Wuxi. If only SQ flies direct to Wuxi….

After dono how long, we’ve finally reached the hotel. Time check, its 5pm. It’s a long 2½ hrs. Went dinner after we’ve checked in, then back to hotel again.

20.09.08 (Sat)
Finally found some decent Japanese food for lunch and bakery shop. Been looking for a decent one since Monday. Even the Breadtalk here also doesn’t look appetising. Went to a huge book store but nothing interests me. Went shopping, but things here are both more expensive than Xiamen and Singapore. Can’t seem to find anything to buy. Went into the most ‘Upmarket’ shopping mall, the looks on the outside can be deceiving. I thought its gonna be something like our DFS. But I’m so wrong. There is a Gucci, a hmmm…. Burberry’s and not much things else. No Tods, No Hermes, No LV, No Coach, No Chanel, No Polo Ralph, No nothing…

Dinner? Hehehehe… at TGI Friday’s. Sound familiar? Yep. We had that in SG more than a decade ago. Food, is not bad. I might wanna eat that again soon.

MacD here? Not as nice as Xiamen though. KFC, still quite ok. At least the Portuguese egg tart here taste as good as Xiamen’s. Starbucks… its more ex than SG. But at least I have my coffee fix here.

21.09.08 (Sun)
Though I’ve requested for a non-smoking floor, but I still smell cigarette at the corridor. Guess this is what I don’t like abt this country. Ppl spit anytime, any how, any place. Ppl just shove u even when u let them have a bigger portion of the pavement. Vehicles don’t follow the traffic lights. Ppl cross the road as if its their own. I admit I’m one of them too. Else, I will never be able to cross over to the other side of the road even if its Green man.

Gone out for< 2 hrs today and retreated back. The air is bad. Went to a park and tried to walk there, I could hardly breathe. Hence, head back and went to Parkson’s to get my orange juice and jelly. Wanted to get some fruits but the fruits doesn’t look fresh to me. Cant find tomatoes. So ya… I’m back in my hotel, watched my 4th hr of 西游记 and portions of HBO & Cinemax Movies. Movie marathon? You have it. Hahaha.... Today alone, I've watched total of 4 movies starting from morning. Dinner = KFC. =) The egg tart and wings here are nicer. Much nicer than SG. They have a special orange coloured drink which tastes more like fizzy orange+passion fruit. The whipped potato? Terrible taste. The sauce is nothing like ours, potatos are not really 'whipped'... but they've got quite nice salad though. What they don't have here is 2 piece crispy chicken. They only have single piece original colonel chicken. Mostly burgers here. Liked their float though there is a huge dairy product frenzy going on. Anyway, ya... thats for Sunday.

22.09.08 (Mon)
Today is a "No Car Day". Which means, no private vehicles along the major roads. Which happens to be where my hotel is. Have to walk a good 25mins to another hotel which our HO ppl is staying in to wait for Co. transport. But well, today is a cat and mice game. Have to catch the ppl before they go off to Shanghai for an Exhibition. Finally, I've acheived my target for today. Managed to grab hold of the ppl I need and get my information verified. Hehehehe...

Till then...

Last day at Xiamen

3 wks ago, i was procrastinating on coming to Xiamen. Cos its my 1st time to Xiamen, and 1st time to China. There were places which I wanted to go but due to time constraint, was unable to. SO the next time if i'm coming here, i'll make sure i go there. Both sight-seeing and shopping.

Now, wondering how is Wuxi. Hahaha... no doubt its better for shopping. But hor... the food... the packet food that our factory has. I think i'm gonna faint. hahaha...

till then...

Happy Birthday to Me

Today is my Birthday. Hmmm.... alone in China. Bought my own birthday cake and eat. Lucky thing I have Skype can speak to my parents everynight. If not, I'd be really bored.

One consolation is that the hotel I'm staying in, actually knows that I'm back in my room. Cos I received a call from the front desk the moment I'm back in my room from dinner. They told me, today is my birthday and they've got a present for me. Hahaha... so happy. =) Its a diary! and an Ang Pow look alike piece of red card saying "Happy Birthday to Jessy Ng"

Saturday, August 30, 2008

Nope. I did not blog everyday. Hee… Cos I have so little time to do anything. This is what I do everyday for about a week now.

6.30am – WAKE UP.
6.45am – BREAKFAST!
7.30am – Go back to my room to change and get ready for work.
8.00am – Company car is here to fetch us to work.
8.30am – Reach office, start working.
12.00pm – LUNCH TIME!
1.00pm – Continue to work.
7.00pm – Go back hotel.
7.30pm – Reach hotel
7.45pm – DINNER!
9.00pm – Go back hotel room.
12.00am – SLEEP.

Boring right? It IS!!! The only place where I can walk around is around my hotel. But, is really nothing much. Small stalls peddling food, fruits, imitations, etc.

Local Branded sports shoes are really cheap when converted into SGD. But considering the salary they earn here. At about RMB250 to RMB 350 a pair, it is really a luxury to most of them.

29.08.08
Yesterday, when I went to the weighbridge to have a chat with some of the people there. Hmmm… Was being offered Longans… Freshly plucked from a tree some where by one of the workers. It’s small in size but really sweet. Its not like the big and juicy ones we have in SG lor. Wanted to buy dried longans but was told the stock now are from last year’s. Cos now is the season for fresh longans. Have to wait for at least another month before I can get freshly dried ones.

Tomatoes… I have been eating tomatoes almost everyday as a fruit. Tomatoes here are really HUGE and ‘meaty’. Hahaha…. Makes me happy. But have been suffering from gastric since Wednesday. Now feeling better but got to eat on regular basis. Cos if too hungry, would come back again.

30.08.08
Hmmm… had Tomatoes again. Hahaha.. the ppl here already know I like tomatoes. Order fruits will specially order 1 for me. Don’t need to buy liao. Had MacD last night. Its teriyaki chicken thigh. Very yummy. They have Original, Spicy and Super Spicy type. My set consists of Teriyaki Chicken Burger, Medium Fries and Hot Chocolate. RMB23.50. Its like almost S$5 only. Finally saw lots of ppl. Perhaps its Friday night ba.
Getting sick of Hotel breakfast already. Everyday eat the same thing. This morning, I looked at the spread… =( Its even worse. I only had a small bowl of sweet potato porridge, 1 fried egg, 2 slices white bread, 2 slices ham and half a fried fritter. Coffee, butter and pineapple jam for the bread.

Suppose to work till abt 1pm today then go out de. But… my colleague says… lets work till 2-3pm. Haiz…. No choice lor… There is no way I can make my own way home, so I just go round the whole plant (only the outside cos I don’t have safety helmet), then observe. The sun is SOoo freaking hot and prickly. Lucky I had my UV block moisturiser and SPF130 sunblock on. If not, sure kena burnt.

Actually, things here are relatively cheap. But it depends on what you are looking at. Hmmm.. went to Kappa shop last night also. Hmmm… a pair of shoes is also almost S$100. T-shirt also from S$40 onwards. No wonder not many ppl in the shops. There are more ppl in Local brands shops.

Went to Zhong Shan Lu, Bu Xing Jie (忠山路 - 步行街). Bought a couple of things tonight. Had a great dinner and the tastiest Muah Chee ever. Its so so tasty... just a simple Muah Chee, with black sesame, peanut and some sugar, then coated with either peanut or black sesame. Is so Qqqqq... and is RMB1 for each Muah Chee. Tried the other "Must Try" 土笋冻. Don't really fancy the thing. Its cold, sweet, salty, sourish... hmmm... like the sauce that goes with it better. 6 for RMB5.

Bought a Wind Breaker from Li Ning. Jus read from their website, apparently this is a listed company in China. And the boss, the one who lighted the Olympic Tourch on 08.08.08. Its a good sales gimmick lor. Spend RMB200, get RMB30 off + 2 free pairs of socks. Can use it for travel anyway. Hee...

Really looking forward to Sunday. Cos really going for sight-seeing. To GulangYu (鼓浪屿). Not sure what to look for, but apparently there’s a shopping mall there. Got 2 Catholic Churches here in Xiamen. One on mainland, One in GulangYu. But is off the ferry terminal. Anyway, I’ll just pray myself.

Till tomorrow...

1st night in Xiamen

Well, its not as bad as I thought it would be. Ppl here relatively nice. At least for my colleagues here. Everyday fetch to work and back to hotel. Hmmm... not the type of treatment I'll receive when I was in my previous company though.

At least there's internet access to keep me entertained and I can still listen to 933fm. Makes me feel more at home. Hmmm.... Got 娱乐百分百also. hee... OK la... TV program not that boring also. Got HK & TW variety shows too.

Hmmm... going to start my work proper tmr loh... staying here for a good 2.5 weeks before going back to SG. Hmmm.... thinking of how to celebrate my bday alone here. I got Pringles, instant noodles, chocs, etc. Have to find a proper 便利店to replenish my goodies soon. Cos I can only self sustain for like.... a week?

Till then.... Think I have more time to blog. hahaha.... This is abit 废 I know. But what to do? Hmmm... everything is communicated in Mandarin. I have to practice writing my chinese characters also. Looks like wriggly worms... ;P

Hmmm... Visual vs Imagination

Had a meeting just now and haiz... draining session... Not cos we came up with lots of ideas... but thinking of ways to put through an idea in a diplomat way and having to interrupt to make ur voices heard.

Why even suggest that we need some changes when the people on top are resistant to change? Don't tell me you welcome the change. SHOW me the bloody change!!! I'm a very VISUAL person and my imagination is near zero!

Back to my classicals

After about 8 months of absence, I'm finally back to my usual Monday evening routine. Shiok! Seems like I have not lost my classical sense. Hahahaha...

Collected my scores today. 3 of them in total.... so many...

Brahms - Ein Deutsches Requiem
Belioz - La Damnation de Faust.
Hayden - Missa in Angustiis

Lucky thing is, my sight-singing still not that bad. Though not good, but good enough to rah rah off the slower tempo ones. Hee... On that note, I think I'd be able to sleep better tonight. =)

Random thoughts

Sundays will never be the same again. I'm missing the Sundays where I had to rush from one choir practice to another. Now, its back to the same old routine of waking up in the morning, thinking of whether to go for morning practices or just go for mass, stay back for practice after mass, go home have some eye shut, wake up, eat dinner, loiter around the house before I sleep again.

Saturday was much better. I woke up in the morning, had breakfast and went downstairs to get some eggs for my muffins. I made muffins... though not entirely from scratch but hor, its still the skills that counts ya. Took a short nap b4 going to my friend's place for steamboat dinner.

Woke up late from my nap. Packed my muffins and rushed out.....

Half an hour later, I reached my friend's place. It was WOW!!! Lots of collections.... Coca Cola... Hard Rock... Telephone... I was really impressed! Should be about 30 yrs of collections ba... Hahaha... mine... is err.... 30 yrs of dust. Hahahaha.... No la... just that I still keep my kindergarten workbook, my art classes drawings and erm... I cannot remember liao. Too many. I need a spring cleaning soon!

Dinner was GREAT! Had 2 rounds of steamboat. Hee... 1st round, we realised not enough food and the guys went down to get more food (my fav mushrooms...) After dinner, we had choc fondue and sharings from all of us present. Its actually the 1st time I've been to a dinner and have sharings after that. Songs and prayers after Magnum ice cream.. which is POWER! The sharings were really good. Though I always have nothing to share (as usual). Cos my experience with God, I didn't really link anything and everything to God's work. I believe everything happens for a reason. And I know why God brought all of you into my life.

Come to think of it. I've never been exposed to praise and worship thingy until recently and the Planet Love project have given me to alot of 1st times. 1st time I'm singing in front of an audience with my own mic, 1st time I'm dancing while singing, 1st time singing contemporary christian songs (such beautiful songs which I've never heard before), 1st time I shared about him (it was tough. very tough. especially when the people whom I had to share to knows him). I've gotten to know a group of Wonderful people and hope our friendships will last for as long as it lasts. Not something like a Hi-Bye thingy and after one project, its So Long... I'm Gone.... kinda situation.

Actually, I have already made a decision whether to attend that wedding. As much as I would like to be part of it, I do not want to mess up my makeup on that day. Why do I bring this up all of a sudden? Thats why this post has been tagged as "Random" also ma. Hee... Cos not much inspiration for today. Think I'll just end it here. =)

Terrible Swing

Last nite, I went back to the driving range to hit some balls after an absence of about nearly 4 mths. To my horror, my swing was horrible + terrible. Have to practice my fundamentals again. Haiz... Stressful also wor.... Thinking of going back tonight to prac again...

Recently, there had been a string of happy and not so happy things happening in my life. But the best thing is, i met my target in moving on to a new company by mid-year. 2 more weeks, I'll be stepping into a place of uncertainties again. Starting everything over again and begin my new life in the wilderness in one corner of Singapore.

Quote of the day:
"Finance Minister has warned that Singapore could face another round of inflation if companies increase wages to help workers cope with the higher cost of living today."

Just think... what will happen if the wages remains in status quo and the cost of living continues to escalate? More poverty? Increase in prices of petrol/diesel, basis necessity, food, public transport, ERP, etc... How long can our pay sustain us if everything else increase? To help curb the 'another round of' inflation, are we able to keep our prices constant or bring it down to a more affordable level? Hmmm.... I'm not trying to be political or anything la... Just complaining... and complaining... and complaining...

New Home

Hmmm.... seems like ditching the old blog and creating one is quite common nowadays ah... hehehe... I have also created a new one. Hmmm... not so much of ditching my existing one, but just to hmmm..... get a new one. =)
